The Valley by Larry Sultan is one of my favorite photography books. A gorgeous, evocative, moving chronicle of life in the San Fernando Valley's adult movie industry by the late great Larry Sultan. Includes a front of the book essay by Sultan that interweaves his youth in the Valley and being on the sets of adult movies.

An excerpt:
Yesterday, I found myself driving around in North Hollywood and realized I was near a shooting location where I’d watched a certain kind of extreme adult movie getting made many years ago. It was a curious place at a curious time, and as I drove down the street, I remembered what it was like to come around the corner at dusk, to see the oversized security guard outlined from the light spilling out from the doorway, to stand on the sound stage and see what men did behind closed doors.

Several years ago, I started writing a series of short stories (fiction) set in Porn Valley. Some of those stories have been published over the years. One that I had a hard time placing was entitled “Spike” and featured a male porn star whose erection wouldn’t subside. After 14 rejections, that story was finally accepted for publication. I’ll follow up with details closer to the date of publication, which will be in early 2020.
Star Garden sounds like a San Fernando Valley strip club worth checking out. It's a dive bar but with dancers. Time Out calls it "'the Jumbo’s hipsters haven’t ruined yet.'" Here's a fun YouTube review by a woman named Moonshine Bonanza.
