Valley of the Dolls is 50!
The jury is still out, though, on whether Generation Y will take to "Valley," a book that includes passages like: "A man must feel he runs things, but as long as you control yourself, you control him," and "Close friendships with girls come early in life. After 30 it becomes harder to make new friends — there are fewer hopes, dreams or anticipations to share."

What Happens in Silicon Valley
A very strange, sordid story out of Silicon Valley involving a Sequoia Capital partner:
A lawsuit filed 8 March in San Mateo county superior court in California claims Goguen abused Amber Laurel Baptiste “sexually, physically and emotionally for over 13 years."
Goguen signed a contract to pay Baptiste $40m as compensation, but after paying her $10m Goguen refused to honor the rest of his agreement, according to the lawsuit.
And then this happened:
Former Sequoia Capital partner Michael Goguen countersued the woman who claims he sexually abused her for more than a decade, alleging that she’d threatened to publicly accuse him of "false, horrific acts" unless he paid her $40 million in hush money.
Goguen accused Amber Laurel Baptiste of extortion in San Mateo County Superior Court, six days after she sued him. His 16-page countersuit, littered with intimate details of their affair, alleges that Baptiste was an exotic dancer when the two met, “first looking for a payday and later for revenge.”

The Real Porn Stars of Dallas
The cast of the upcoming "Real Housewives of Dallas" includes a former porn star. Well, sort of.
Tiffany (obviously) Hendra used to be Tiffany (obviously) Bolton, whose credits include the "Black Tie Nights" Skinemax series (sample episode title: "Whose Thong Is it Anyway?"), "12 Hot Women," and "Singapore Sling."
But those aren't "real" porn movies. They're just erotic programming, and she's not ashamed: "So what I showed my tits and had love scenes, but what actress hasn’t. I did that series before I was married and it’s part of my journey. I own it.'"
I thought she looked familiar, and when I looked at her IMDB page, I realized I'd worked with her years ago on FX's "The X Show."
From what I recall, she was a nice girl.

Fappening Guy Pleads Guilty
A celebrity nudies leaker connected to The Fappening and known as Ryan Collins has entered a guilty plea.
Gawker reports:
He faces up to five years in prison.
He’ll probably serve far less: the feds say “parties have agreed to recommend a prison term of 18 months,” although “that recommendation will not be binding on the sentencing judge.” Collins breached the celeb accounts through phishing emails that tricked famous actresses (or those close to them) into thinking they were official security dispatches from Apple and Google. The Department of Justice says Collins hijacked over 100 accounts.

Pay for Porn
Image via BottlesTonight
The student-run paper of my alma mater, UC Berkeley, has a column about why you should pay for porn. The author's argument? Her friend works in porn and wants to get paid for her work.
Electra is a sweet, slightly nerdy Northwestern undergraduate student majoring in linguistics and physics, as well as a hopeful UC Berkeley transfer student. To her, working in porn is “something between performance and a really tedious office job.” While the cameras are rolling, she plays up any pain or pleasure, and most of the time, she’s already on the edge of her boundaries. At the same time, she keeps a mental tally of just how many minutes are left in the scene, how many spankings or shocks are left to go (she mostly works in bondage-themed porn), and how damn uncomfortable the hard floor feels on her knees.

Gawker Trial, Day Seven
Image via My San Antonio
I'm tuned in to day seven of Hulk Hogan vs Gawker Media, livestreamed on Gawker, of course. Currently, publisher Nick Denton is on the stand. Denton just opined of the sex tape post: "I believe it stands up to the test of time."
Sexual Cannibalism
The NYT has a terrifying story on spiders and sexual cannibalism.
To wit:
The females may gobble up the male before, during or after mating, so males have evolved various ways to cheat death. In some species, they wait until the female is busy eating and rush in to copulate while her attention is elsewhere. In other species, they even bring an edible gift to distract their intended.
Male nursery web spiders have evolved a different kind of defense. They tie up the female before copulation, immobilizing her legs by wrapping them in strong spider silk so they can copulate and escape with their lives before the female gets free.

Gawker Trial, Day Whatever
I spent some time this morning watching a live feed of the Hulk Hogan vs Gawker Media sex tape trial of the moment. According to Reuters, one of the highlights was a debate over whether or not "Mr Bollea's penis had" any "news value." Watching the editor who wrote the post get sweated on the stand mostly made me just feel bad. Like, OMGSEX. On the one hand, I feel bad for the Hulk. On the other hand, the prosecution makes you feel like sexual curiosity is the most pathological thing possible. People are curious about others' sex lives. This is human nature. I keep flipflopping on who I think will win. Ideologically, I'm with Gawker, but they're not doing themselves any favors in the deposition department. I'm curious to see how this ends.
